Recovery Logs

Disk-by-disk recovery notes, media condition, flux imaging results, failures, reread decisions, and restoration observations.

Notable Recovery Entries

EntryDateStatusNotes
WANG0682026-06-04Severe media failureDisk showed oxide shedding after initial read attempt. Marked as failed media. Further rereads avoided to prevent additional damage.
Pascal Disk Set2026-06-04Flux capturedSome Pascal media did not pass normal reads, but raw flux was preserved for future analysis.
WangNet / BASIC Support Services2026-06-04Significant discoveryBASIC Support Services appears to provide WangNet configuration functionality. Further analysis pending.

Cataloged Media

Preliminary inventory based on binder sleeve numbers and visible disk labels.

Methodology

Capture First

Original disks are captured at the flux level before aggressive logical recovery attempts.

Avoid Unnecessary Rereads

Fragile or shedding media is not repeatedly stressed once useful evidence has been captured.

Document Failures

Bad reads, damaged sectors, drive behavior, and media condition are preserved as part of the record.

Preserve Raw Evidence

Even when a filesystem image cannot yet be produced, raw flux captures are retained for future tools and analysis.

Test Copies, Not Originals

Recovered images are written back to fresh media where possible, reducing wear on original disks.

Track Context

Labels, sleeves, handwritten notes, part numbers, serial numbers, and binder order are recorded alongside disk images.

Preservation Status Key

StatusMeaning
Flux capturedRaw magnetic transition data was captured and retained.
Readable imageA logical disk image was produced and appears usable.
Writeback testedThe image was written to replacement media and tested on Wang hardware.
Partial recoverySome sectors or files were recovered, but the disk is not fully readable.
Failed mediaThe disk is physically damaged, shedding, or otherwise unsafe for repeated reads.
